Privacy Policy
UpCanyon LLC
Last Updated: July 2026
Introduction
UpCanyon ("we," "our," or "us") operates the UpCanyon mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, why, and the choices you have.
Our approach is simple: the App has no user accounts, and we collect the minimum needed to show you weather conditions, webcams, and to deliver the alerts you ask for. We do not sell your data, and there are no advertising or marketing-tracker SDKs in the App.
Information We Handle
Stored only on your device
Most of what you do in the App never leaves your phone:
- Preferences — units (°F/°C, mph, inches, etc.), time format, theme, audio settings, quiet hours, and similar settings
- Pinned spots and lists — the cams, stations, gauges, and places you save
- Home spot and home cam picks
- Trial state — the timestamp of your first launch, used to run the free 7-day Pro period (no payment info involved)
You can erase all of this at any time with "Reset app data" in Account → Account Actions.
Stored on our servers (only if you enable alerts)
Weather alerts are evaluated on a server so they can fire while the App is closed. To make that work, when you create an alert or turn on an alert channel we store:
- An anonymous install identifier — a random ID generated on your device. It is not your name, email, phone number, or advertising ID, and we cannot link it to you.
- A push notification token — issued by Apple or Google so we can deliver notifications to your device.
- Your alert rules and the pinned spots they watch — including the names and map coordinates of those spots, keyed to the anonymous ID.
If you never enable alerts or channels, none of this is uploaded.
Location
- With your permission, the App uses your device's location to show conditions near you, sort stations and cams by distance, and power features like "Compare with my location."
- If you enable Storm Intercept warnings, the App also uses your location and speed while in use to estimate whether a radar-indicated storm cell will cross your route.
- Location is processed on your device for these features. We do not maintain a server-side history of your movements.
- The App works without location permission — you can search any place manually. We explain why we're asking before the system permission prompt appears, and you can revoke permission in your device settings at any time.
Crash reporting and diagnostics
The App uses Sentry to collect crash reports and basic diagnostics (device model, OS version, app version, and the technical state that led to a crash). This helps us fix bugs. Crash reports are not used for advertising. You can opt out in Account → Notifications & Privacy → "Opt out of analytics."
Support communications
If you email hello@upcanyon.app, we keep your email address and message so we can respond and handle follow-ups.
Information we do NOT collect
- No user accounts, names, emails, or phone numbers (unless you email us)
- No payment card details — purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play
- No contacts, photos, or files
- No advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
- No sale or sharing of personal information to data brokers, ever
How We Use Information
- Show current conditions, forecasts, webcams, snow, water, and air-quality data for the places you choose
- Evaluate your alert rules and alert channels and send you push notifications you asked for
- Run the free 7-day Pro period and verify purchases (via RevenueCat, Apple, and Google)
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
Data Storage and Security
- On-device data is stored with the standard secure storage APIs provided by iOS and Android.
- Server data (alert rules, pins being watched, push tokens, channel subscriptions) is stored with Supabase, Inc. on servers located in the United States, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Purchases are verified by RevenueCat, Inc., which talks to Apple and Google. We never see or store your payment details.
No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we limit what we hold so there is very little to lose.
Third-Party Services

| RevenueCat | Purchase verification | https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy |

Weather and camera data sources
The App aggregates public and licensed data from sources including: the National Weather Service / NOAA, USGS (stream gauges and flood cameras), USDA NRCS SNOTEL, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, EPA AirNow, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (storm reports), WeatherAPI, Tempest / WeatherFlow, avalanche centers (including CAIC), state departments of transportation (CDOT, UDOT, and others), the National Park Service, the FAA weather camera program, ALERTWildfire, university and research networks (including USDA ARS and PhenoCam), and municipal, county, and community webcam operators.
Requests for that data go from your device to those providers or to our cache. We do not send any of these providers your identity — they see standard network request data (such as IP address), as any website you visit does.
Data Retention
- On-device data — stays until you delete it (or the App) yourself
- Push tokens — become undeliverable when you disable notifications or uninstall; we periodically purge dead tokens
- Alert rules and pin snapshots — kept while your alerts exist; deleted when you delete the alerts, and removable in full on request
- Fired-alert dedupe records — automatically cleaned up on a rolling basis
- Support emails — kept up to 2 years for follow-up context
To have server-side data tied to your install removed entirely, use "Reset app data" and disable alerts, or email hello@upcanyon.app.
Your Rights and Choices
- Notifications — disable per-alert, per-channel, with the master switch in Account, or at the OS level
- Location — deny or revoke at any time; the App keeps working
- Crash reporting — opt out in Account → Notifications & Privacy
- Deletion — "Reset app data" wipes the device; email us to purge server-side alert data
- Access / correction — email hello@upcanyon.app and we will help
California residents: the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) rights to know, delete, and opt out of sale apply. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — but access and deletion requests work as described above.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact hello@upcanyon.app and we will delete it promptly.
International Users
The App is operated from the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, the limited data described above is processed and stored in the United States.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. Significant changes will be posted in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
